Flu & Covid Vaccinations

2023/2024 Autumn Programme

For the 2023/24 season Kenilworth and Warwick Primary Care Network are again working together to deliver the flu and Covid Booster programme for the season. Kenilworth and Warwick PCN is comprised of five local GP Practices; Abbey Medical Centre, Castle Medical Centre, Avonside Health Centre, Priory Medical Centre and Chase Meadow Health Centre.

This season, the vaccinations will be provided at two venues:

  • Chase Meadow Community Centre, Chase Meadow, Warwick, CV34 6BT
  • Kenilworth Methodist Church, 60 Priory Rd, Kenilworth CV8 1LQ

Both venues have free parking

The government has unfortunately delayed the rollout of the Covid Autumn Booster programme, and this will start in October 2023. However we will be giving flu vaccinations in September, and we will invite you for your Covid vaccination as soon as we are able to. This will mean that your vaccinations are not likely to be given at the same time.

To answer some frequently asked questions:

Why can’t I have my flu or Covid vaccination at my GP Practice?

By working together as five Practices, we are able to pool our resources to be able to vaccinate more people in a shorter timeframe. It also allows our teams to continue seeing our patients for their normal reviews.

What about children?

Children aged 2 and 3 years old as at the 31st August 2023 will receive a nasal flu vaccine in their GP Practice. Invitations will be sent to eligible patients as soon as the vaccine is available. This is often in October due to differing delivery schedules for this cohort.

Children aged 17 and under in a clinical at risk group can receive a vaccination at their GP Practice. Anyone of school-age (reception to year 11) and not in a clinical at-risk group will need to wait for the school immunisations team to receive the vaccination in school. Unfortunately we cannot vaccinate children who are not at-risk as we only receive enough vaccines to vaccinate our at-risk patients.

Why are my flu and Covid vaccination not being given at the same time this year?

This is only temporary and is because the national rollout of the Autumn Covid Booster has been delayed. Our flu vaccinations are scheduled for delivery in mid-September, and to avoid delay we will be starting to vaccinate eligible patients with their flu vaccine as soon as we receive the delivery. If we have received the Covid vaccines by the time you attend for your flu vaccination, as long as you are eligible you are welcome to receive both vaccines at the same time. Otherwise we will invite you separately once the Covid vaccines arrive.
